Cafeteria Menus

Northside school full-service cafeterias offer hot breakfast and lunch daily.
Breakfast menu changes

Child Nutrition will make some changes to the breakfast menu at all Northside schools starting Jan. 7, 2008.

Currently, students are allowed to choose an extra meat or bread item in place of the required milk or juice/fruit item. After Jan. 7, NISD will strictly follow state guidelines for breakfast and no longer allow replacement food items. Any additional items may be purchased at an a la carte price.

Everyone recognizes that childhood obesity is a growing issue for Texas school-aged children. In response, Northside wants to honor the intent of the Texas nutrition policy by adjusting the breakfast selection process.
Please contact the Food Service department for any questions concerning the menus.

Breakfast prices will increase
for 2008-09 school year

Student breakfast prices will increase by 15 cents at elementary schools and by 5 cents at secondary schools, effective for the 2008-09 school year. In addition, a la carte prices will increase by 10 percent.

The District hasn't raised prices for the past three years, but needs to do so for the next school year because of increased food and transportation costs.

Student breakfast prices at elementary schools will increase from 75 to 90 cents, and from 85 to 90 cents at middle and high schools. The price increase will not affect students who receive free or reduced meals.

Foods of Minimal Nutritional Value
The Texas Department of Agriculture put new policies in place to limit snack foods in elementary schools. The policy states "An elementary school may not serve or provide access for students to Foods of Minimal Nutritional Value any time, anywhere on school premises during the school day."

Specifically, elementary students may not have carbonated drinks at school or on a field trip during the school hours. Also banned are most kinds of candy, gum and popsicles (unless containing fruit juice or milk). This will not affect activities after the school day or on weekends. Also not affected are individual meals sent from home to be consumed by the student and not shared with others.

For more information on the new policy and suggestions for nutritious snacks, please see the links below, or check the Latest News page at the Northside Food Service Department's website.
