Established in 1949 by the consolidation of several rural school districts, Northside today is 355 square miles of urban landscape, suburban growth and rural Texas hill country.
Although it began with only 823 students, Northside today is South Texas' largest school system, with an enrollment of 91,578. This growth has been sustained by about 3,000 new students enrolling in Northside each year.
