Calvin Buchholtz, a science teacher at Jay High School for the past 36 years, was named Teacher of the Year by the Texas Association of Public Schools (TAPS) Property and Liability Fund. Buckholtz, also the Student Council sponsor, has received several other prestigious awards this school year including:
- Texas Star Award, Texas Association of Student Councils/Texas Association of Secondary School Principals Texas Star Award
- San Antonio Mayoral/County Judge Outstanding Science and Mathematics Teaching Award
- Northside ISD nominee, 2008 Trinity Prize for Excellence in Teaching
- Community Service honoree, Ford’s Salute to Education
