More than 200 fine arts students showed thousands of school leaders from across the state what it means to be "Deep in the Heart of Northside."

The multi-talented students – from fiddlers to Mariachis – performed Oct. 2 at the Texas Association of School Administrators/Texas Association of School Boards (TASA/TASB) annual convention in Houston.

Northside was featured as the showcase district at the convention because Superintendent John Folks is President of TASA this year. NISD Director of Fine Arts James Miculka was the show’s executive producer.

The 25-minute production, titled "Deep in the Heart of Northside," featured musicians, dancers, singers, and actors from across the District who paid tribute to public education, teachers, and school leaders. Musical and dance selections honored Texas' rich and colorful heritage that is celebrated at Northside ISD every day.

At its core, though, the performance was a tribute to the educators and school leaders who open their hearts every day to make sure public school children are on the path to success.

The student performers started rehearsing in the summer and gave employees a sneak peek of the production during Back-to-School Convocations.

A video of the Houston performance will be posted on the NISD web site later this month.
