Two dozen NISD students were honored for achievement in science in the following areas (individual honorees are listed below):

Junior Academy of Science winners
Students compete in the Junior Academy of Science first at the Alamo Region Junior Academy of Science, held annually at UTSA in February. Each student conducts independent scientific research and prepares a ten-minute presentation on their research. Following their presentations to experts in their fields of research, they are questioned by the judges about their methods and results.

Students who earn a grand prize or first place in their category advance to the state level competition, the Texas Junior Academy of Science, that is held at Texas A&M University each April. Each student being recognized earned third place or higher at that state level competition.

American Academy of Science presenters
Students are invited to present at the national convention of the American Association for the Advancement of Science based on their performance at the Texas Junior Academy of Science.

Exxon Mobil Texas Science and Engineering Fair Winners
Students advance to this state level competition through the Alamo Region Science and Engineering Fair. Students conduct independent science research, prepare display boards, and are interviewed by panels of judges on their work.

International Science and Engineering Fair winners
Rather than a national level science fair, students advance from the state level to the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF). These students joined 1,500 other young scientists from 50 states and 47 countries at ISEF. NISD had seven students who qualified for the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair held in Atlanta May 11-17.
