District utility costs
NISD Communications Department
November 30, 2007

To be a more transparent organization to District taxpayers and parents and to fulfill the requirements of House Bill 3693, Northside ISD is posting its monthly utility costs. It is important to note that NISD operates almost 100 schools and a dozen support facilities that total 11.2 million square feet of buildings. With a workforce of 13,000 employees, a bus fleet of 718 buses, and 86,500 students, NISD's energy requirements are big. Rising fuel and utility costs and inflation have also had an impact on current operations. To manage those costs, NISD's energy management department oversees energy use and implements plans to reduce costs. The state and nationally-recognized management program has reduced NISD's water, gas, and electrical bills by more than $1 million annually. This posting will be updated once a month.
