Karen Freeman, a long-time NISD community volunteer, was elected to the Board of Trustees in 2005 and currently serves as Vice President of the Board. She is Chair of the Academics Committee and serves on the Finance, Building, Technology, and Policy and Intergovernmental Relations committees. She also is Northside's representative to the Bexar County School Board Coalition. Freeman recently achieved the status of "Master Trustee" as a 2009 graduate of Leadership TASB.
Freeman has served on School Advisory Teams, the first NISD School Boundary Advisory Committee, NISD Strategic Plan committees, three NISD Bond committees (1998, 2001, and 2004) and the NISD Citizens' Bond Advisory Committee. Additionally, Freeman has held numerous PTA and Booster Organization positions in NISD schools and is an Honorary Life Member of the Texas PTA.
Freeman earned a bachelor of science degree in medical technology at the University of Central Florida in Orlando and is currently the marketing and public relations director of Home Instead Senior Care in San Antonio. She is married to Dr. Ted Freeman, and together they have four children, all graduates of O'Connor High School. Kathy is a graduate of the University of Texas at Austin; Michelle is also a UT-Austin graduate and has a master's degree from Purdue University; Jeanine is a graduate of the University of Houston; and Jason is a student at UT-Austin.
The Freemans are active members of Our Lady of Guadalupe Church in Helotes.
