Karen Freeman, a long-time NISD community volunteer, was elected to the Board of Trustees in 2005 and currently serves as Secretary of the Board. She is Chairwoman of the Finance Committee and serves on the Academics, Building, Technology, and Policy and Intergovernmental Relations committees. She also is Northside's delegate at the Texas Association of School Boards (TASB) Convention and has been selected as a member of Leadership TASB, Class of 2009. Freeman is an active member in the San Antonio Founder Lions Club.
Freeman has served on School Advisory Teams, the first NISD School Boundary Advisory Committee, NISD Strategic Plan committees, three NISD Bond committees (1998, 2001, and 2004) and the NISD Citizens' Bond Advisory Committee. Additionally, Freeman has held numerous PTA and Booster Organization positions at the NISD schools her children have attended and is an Honorary Life Member of the Texas PTA.
Freeman earned a bachelor's of science degree in medical technology at the University of Central Florida in Orlando and is currently the marketing and public relations director of Home Instead Senior Care in San Antonio. She is married to Dr. Ted Freeman, and together they have four children, all graduates of O'Connor High School. Kathy is a graduate of the University of Texas at Austin; Michelle is also a UT-Austin graduate and has a master's degree from Purdue University; Jeannine is a student at the University of Houston; and Jason is a student at UT Austin.
The Freemans are active members of Our Lady of Guadalupe Church in Helotes.
