  • Ensure the implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of Year Two Activities of the Five Year Strategic Plan for 2008-2013.

  • Continue focused support to schools so that performance continues above the state average on TAKS (Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills) and exceeds the standards outlined in No Child Left Behind (NCLB).

  • Monitor the achievement gap among the ethnic student groups and implement efforts to close those gaps.

  • Implement initiatives to improve teaching and learning in math and science with special emphasis on the economically disadvantaged and limited English proficient students.

  • Expand efforts to adapt NISD math and reading grade level curriculum resources to meet the needs of special education students.

  • Continue focused efforts on increasing enrollment in, successful completion of, and higher scores in Advanced Placement and dual credit courses.

  • Continue to monitor District and campus-level processes for tracking and returning leavers/potential dropouts.

  • Continue to make improvements to student safety through the implementation of a visitor identification system at all elementary schools and through placement of a digital video system on NISD buses.

  • Continue communication with parents of middle and high school students regarding 4x4 and graduation requirements for all diploma options.

  • Communicate to parents of middle and high school students the changes to the revised graduation plan requirements for all diploma options.

  • Explore and plan with staff and community representatives the development, passage, and implementation of a 2010 bond program.

  • Monitor and work with Select Committee on funding formulas that provides support in efforts to establish a weighted-student funding system that recognizes all programs and services including academic instruction, instructional support, extracurricular activities, and technology, necessary to prepare students to contribute positively to society.

  • Monitor and implement America Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) funding that ensures appropriate reporting, accountability and transparency of resources and expenditures.

  • Continue to implement a plan for minority recruiting, hiring and career progression.

  • Administer online technology literacy assessment to all eighth graders District-wide and explore strategies to strengthen the Technology Applications curriculum implementation at the middle school level.

  • Purchase and deploy at least three mobile carts with 40 iPods each to rotate among all-level classrooms, providing staff development and support for teacher-created lessons and best practices for student instructional use.

  • Build more green schools using CHPS.

  • Continue to enhance well rounded education of all students by expanding student participation in UIL activities, intramural programs, and other extracurricular activities.

  • Enhance Construction Careers Academy curriculum to allow for 2+2 partnerships with community colleges and four-year universities.
