Board and Superintendent Goals
Ensure the implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of Year One Activities of the Five Year Strategic Plan for 2008-2013.
Continue focused support to schools so that performance continues above the state average on TAKS (Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills) and exceeds the standards outlined in the No Child Left Behind (NCLB) Act.
Direct and oversee the expansion and implementation of Year Four of the Curriculum Management System so that curriculum is available, instruction is planned, differentiated, and assessed and data is used to drive school improvement efforts.
Continue the development and support for the organizational structure and the recruitment design for Construction Careers Academy.
Initiate focused improvement initiatives in teaching and learning in math and science with special emphasis on the economically disadvantaged student.
Expand efforts to adapt NISD science and social studies grade level curriculum to meet the needs of special education students.
Focus efforts on increasing enrollment in, successful completion of, and higher scores in Advanced Placement and dual credit courses.
Revise District and campus-level procedures for addressing leavers/potential dropouts.
Improve communication with parents of middle and high school students regarding 4x4 and graduation plan requirements for all diploma options.
Work with staff and community representatives on the implementation and communication for the 2007 bond program.
Monitor and work with legislators on supporting efforts to establish a weighted-student funding system that recognizes all programs and services including academic instruction, instructional support, extracurricular activities, and technology, necessary to prepare students to contribute positively to society.
Ensure that the district continues in the direction of financial stability.
Initiate a targeted plan for minority recruiting, hiring and career progression.
Coordinate and support the expansion of Parent Connection (discipline data, online payments, news and resources, etc.).
Expand implementation of online technology literacy assessments to additional middle school students and campuses in order to meet NCLB goals.
Complete a stakeholder review and update of the Employee Technology Competencies, promote District-wide, then explore assessment options to satisfy NCLB requirements.
Acquire and begin implementation of a new Enterprise Content Management System to reduce paper-processing/ paper-handling.
Reduce the annual electric consumption by five percent each year for six years, beginning September 1, 2007.
