President Truman signs bill approving construction of the Interstate Highway System, linking all major cities.




First class graduates from Northside High School on May 25, 1951. Mrs. Edmund Cody plays the piano at the graduation exercise.

The first cafeteria is built.

Telephones are installed in all school offices.

Murray Boone becomes the Superintendent of Northside Rural High School District #1

Northside High School is fully accredited by the Texas Education Agency.

West San Antonio Heights School is dedicated February 8, 1952.

Republicans draft Dwight Eisenhower as their president under the motto, "I like Ike."



The Northside Rural High School District #1 Board members outlaw shorts, require boys' shirt tails be tucked in. This is the beginning of the dress code.

The first microscopes for the schools are purchased.

The long distance transportation system for schools in the district is approved by the school board.

Northside Elementary School opens. In 1957, the school's name is changed to Sunset Hills Elementary, and in 1988 the name is changed again to Colby Glass Elementary.

Northside Junior High opens with 10 classrooms on the Northside High School campus.

Cable Elementary School is built on Cable Ranch property.

NISD board approves purchase of 34 band uniforms, new bleachers, and 28 musical instruments for Northside High School.

The board also approves the teaching of journalism in high school and sets aside funds to purchase textbooks.
