As we begin the new school year, there are some reminders that I feel are important. Students, register early to take your SAT or ACT. You will want to start the application process early so that you can then spend time in the spring applying for scholarships. It is my hope that every single graduate will receive at least one scholarship. This will take lots of work on your part and on our part to keep you informed about what scholarships are available.
Additionally, I feel that it is important to make sure that you are all involved in some extracurricular activity. Colleges want to see students who are well-rounded and students who have taken a leadership role while in high school. We are lucky that we are on the campus of Holmes High School where our students have access to so many great clubs and organizations. Students also have the opportunity to be active participants in the academy they have selected. Bottom line—get involved. Finally, students, I want to challenge you to find ways to reach out to the community. We are fortunate to have so many people who help our students by serving as mentors or by hiring our students for internships, etc… It is important that we always remember to give back to those who have helped us. Let’s make community service a BCHS goal for 2008-09. Parents, a special note to you: if you would like to be part of our school’s advisory team, please call the school or email me dottiehall@nisd.net. I appreciate the opportunity to work with the best students in San Antonio!
