The Business & Financial Services Department is responsible for the complex job of managing the District's budget and investments. Business & Financial Services oversees a number of departments including accounting, accounts payable, budget, cash management, finance, food services, payroll, purchasing, and special revenues. Northside Independent School District has an annual budget of over $1 billion. This money is used for teacher and employee salaries, services for students, school and facility maintenance, and much more. Additionally, bond funds are used for the construction of new schools and support facilities -- as well as the renovation and updating of existing schools -- to keep up with the District’s rapid growth.

Following a seven-month process, Trustees approved the 2008-09 budget that includes a general fund budget of $656,834,652 in expenditures, a child nutrition budget of $36,039,600 and a debt service budget of $101,446,464 in expenditures. Total estimated expenditures for all budgets are $1,081,557,897.

The general fund budget includes $19.2 million for growth, $19.2 million for compensation increase, and $11.2 million for new school start-up costs. Trustees approved a tax rate of $1.3025. The rate includes $1.04 for maintenance and operations. The interest & sinking portion remains unchanged at $0.2625.
